The Magic Mug of
King Olaf the Lucky
A huge roar of excitement fills the overcrowded Great Hall as King Olaf jumps up onto the benchboards at the head table, holding aloft a large golden beer stein adorned with ornate ivory carvings. With a raucous cheer he downs the last of his drink, only to laugh with delight as the mug fills itself once again and the foam of his ale sloshes over the edges of the stein. “Shall I tell you a tale?!”, he bellows to his enraptured guests, who howl and whistle with enthusiasm, holding their cups and mugs aloft in encouragement. “Very well!” he yells, taking another huge gulp of ale as his courtiers clap and cheer.
He leans forward, holding out the mug for all to see. His voice becomes serious. Dramatic. Like a thespian reading the opening lines of a play. His guests lean forward, straining their ears and eyes, eager for what comes next.
King Olaf winks in your direction. “It was just a few nights ago, that these adventurers before you came to my court, eager to help me in a dangerous quest…”
As he begins speaking, the ivory figures carved across the sides of the mug take on the appearance of you and your party members as you enter the halls of Olaf’s Throne Room, almost perfectly illustrating the events from several nights ago…
